THE - Tuscany Health Ecosystem - Spoke 8

Description

Spoke 8 has the purpose of co-ordinating the critical mass of neuroscientists existing in Tuscany and integrating it with the interdisciplinary expertise ranging from chemistry to the computational sciences, from synthetic biology to bioinformatics and from omics to imaging and more, in order to achieve the following aims:

• The generation of preclinical models at both cellular and animal level
• The developing of strategies to increase neuroplasticity (a key factor in attempts to  promote functional recovery from neurological diseases)
• The construction of neuroprostheses for the recovery of visual and motor functions
• The creation of pharmacological and genetic therapies
• The identification of quantitative biomarkers that are predictors of neurodegeneration by means of artificial intelligence

Overall budget: € 6.166.591,87, € 1.452.498,35 of which is for the Scuola Normale Superiore, distributed as follows*:

In order to achieve the goals and create the research programme, a a limited liability consortium (Società Consortile a responsabilità limitata) - the "Tuscany Health Ecosystem scarl”, in short “THE scarl” - was set up.
The authorities of the Consortium are as follows: the Members' Assembly (Assemblea dei soci), the joint Administrator (Amministratore unico) or the Administrative Council, and the Sole Auditor (Sindaco unico) or the Supervisory Board (Collegio Sindacale).
The Scuola Normale Superiore takes part in the Members' Assembly (Assemblea dei soci), represented by its Director or his/her delegate.

THE - Tuscany Health Ecosystem - Affliazione a Spoke 4

Description

Spoke 4 of THE Ecosystem is dedicated to Nanotechnologies for diagnosis and therapy, and the planning and development of nanostructured systems for therapeutic and diagnostic applications (nanomedicine, nanodiagnostics); intelligent nanomaterials for the administering of drugs; the development of high-resolution experimental methods/technologies (super-resolution microscopy, 3-4D printing, microfluidic lab-on-a-chip technologies, sensors); the validation of therapeutic/diagnostic targets in biological samples of biomedical interest; nanoscaffolds; micro/nanophotonic devices for precision diagnostics and therapy; drug-delivery systems and precision therapeutic methods based on photonic technologies.
The fields of application range from fundamental studies on the biological response and the  localisation of receptors and cell behaviour to advanced applications such as the discovery and administering of precision drugs, the controlled differentiation of stem cells for  regenerative nanomedicine and the high-resolution validation of functional tissue engineering scaffolds.
In more detail, the NEST laboratory, for the Scuola Normale Superiore, will be involved in the activities relating to the development of high-resolution experimental methods/technologies  (super-resolution fluorescence microscopy). The NEST laboratory will also benefit from the participation in the same project of the CNR-NANO@NEST and of IIT-CNI@NEST.

Overall budget: € 8.371.314,18, € 932.558,83 of which is for the Scuola Normale Superiore, distributed as follows:
